Portable A/C Maintenance Tips
How to Clean and Maintain Your Portable Air Conditioner?
Just like any other HVAC unit, your portable A/C appliance needs basic cleaning. Follow the recommendations below to make it run properly and last a long time.
Drain Water
Locate the internal tank on your portable A/C to remove water that has been accumulated from the cooling process. Empty the tank and then wipe it out gently with a soft cloth or a sponge. Just use warm water.
Clean the Pipes
Once you have drained the left-over water condensation, clean the pipes. Make a solution of equal parts of vinegar and water. Put it in the cooler for one minute before using it. Rinse the pipes with clean water when you are done and run the cooler on fan mode for at least 20 minutes after to get rid of the vinegar smell.
Keep the Exterior Clean
Clean the exterior of your appliance bi-weekly. Turn off the device. Then use a soft, damp cloth to wipe it down. Avoid using abrasive chemicals or detergents.
Replace the Filters
The filter of your portable A/C is like your lungs. It traps all impurities so the system can work correctly. However, the filter on your device will get clogged over time. For this reason, it is essential to clean it or replace it as needed.
If your device comes with a washable filter, slide it out, submerge it in warm water with a mild detergent, rinse thoroughly, and let it dry before putting it back into the appliance. If you have a carbon or HEPA filter, remove it and replace it with a new one.
Store it Correctly
After the hot days are gone, remember to store the portable air conditioner unit properly. That includes making sure it is not wet and cleaning it. Make sure to cover it and store it in a dry place, away from direct contact of the sun rays.
