Homemade Covers for Your A/C Wall Unit
How to Protect Your Wall-Air Conditioner Unit this Winter?
If you are looking for the best tricks to protect your air conditioner wall unit from impending winter, you have come to the right place. We will share with you today a simple guide to make an effective cover for your cooling device.
Before starting, measure the height, width, and depth of the device so you can create a cover that will perfectly fit your unit. You can also take these measurements to a hardware store or home supply store, and the clerks will direct you to the right size. Some covers are insulated, which may be worth considering if you live in a cold climate. Otherwise, this is how to do it at home:
Use Plastic Sheets or Tarps
These materials can be cut to fit around the outside of the air conditioner, including the vents and grills. Attach them using duct tape until you wrap the exposed portion of your wall-air conditioner. Make sure the cover fits the unit but isn’t too tight, to allow for ventilation which can prevent rust buildup and nesting by small animals.
Interior Plastic
For better results cover the inside of your A/C with plastic. If you want it to pass unnoticed, you hang a framed piece of artwork over the covered machine.
Vent Covers
Buy a piece of fabric a bit larger than the vents you are going to cover. Use fabric adhesive to stick fast the material to the plastic sheet. Once the adhesive is completely dried, cut the fabric and plastic to create a piece of cloth with a plastic backing that is slightly larger than the vents. Adhere the cover to the A/C vents using double-sided tape or hot glue.
With the above tips, your wall-air conditioner device will be properly sealed for the winter months for maximum insulation and heating efficiency.
